template or Copy Board ?

Frederike Hoenisch January 31, 2024

I want to share a trello board with our Clients (non-team members).
They each need to have their own copy, where their updates and input on their board doesn't effect the original or the other copies. It also needs to be as simple as possible for the end user.
There would be over 30 People for each of our Clients, some of them are members to another board, so if i Copy the board and but them on it as a guest, we get billed.

Would this best be solved by copying my trello board and sharing the the copy board link or creating a trello board template and sharing the template?

If I share a copy, would they need to make a copy of the board themselves to use?

Thank you!

Hi @Frederike Hoenisch there are a few different ways to approach this but one way would be to create a board for each client and connect the client boards with the main board so everything is synced up. If a client is a member of only one board, they are considered a single-board guest and you won't be charged for these users. They will only be able to access their client board and will not be able to see your "internal" board or any of the other client boards.

One way to connect/sync the boards together is using Unito. This is a paid solution, but will save you a tonne of time in manually copying/pasting data across boards, and should work out cheaper than paying for 30 Trello licenses. It's a fully automatic 2-way sync that can be customized based on your workflow. For example, only syncing certain cards from the main board to your client board, and only certain information flows back (e.g. comments). If this sounds like what you want, I'd be happy to help with any setup (I do Unito consulting as well).
