Throwback Thursday: Action Man or Barbie memories? #TBT

It's Thursday!

giphy

Check out them suspenders/braces that I'm wearing there. Pretty fance, eh! :) I inherited a few Action Man figures from my older brothers. They had army gear; like back packs, riffles, helmets, etc. as accessories. You can see a tipi (tepee) behind me with the door open. I can't remember where that came from or if it was even an Action Man accessory but I just played with it all...

Sooooo, do you have some memories of playing with Action Man figures or Barbie dolls?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

In my childhood, I loved playing with Barbie. I used to spend so much time dressing her up, changing outfits and making up little stories around her world. Sometimes I’d even build small setups at home to make it feel like Barbie had her own house or adventure going on. Looking back, it was all about the fun of imagination and how a simple doll could keep me busy for hours. Those are such sweet memories!

Wishing everyone a great Thursday!

Our family was Star Wars fanatics. We grew up buying/gifting Star Wars figures, vehicles and sets for birthdays and holidays and amassed such a large collection that our play room was referred to as the Star Wars Room in our house. This was the late 70's and early 80's and we would re-enact scenes from the movies as well as create backstories and Star Wars scenarios and play them out. The Rebel Alliance would always win, but the Empire always had a good go at it!

Looking at the collector's market today and seeing how much people are paying for these figures in their original packaging makes me sad though - that kids today may miss out on the creative adventures of play because an adult may convince them to turn a toy into an investment opportunity.

I loved the original Star Wars figures. We had a lot of them incl. a huge Millenium Falcon. Also I remember a lot of figures from He-Man, Skeletor and co :-)

Neither was available where and when I was growing (CzechoSlovakia in the 1980s) up but there was one figure I really cherrished.

The one of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

My dad worked for a large corporation that manufactured and assembled 'western' goods for companies in the West. VCRs, TVs, sports bags. Of of the divisions specialized in manufacturing plastics and plastics goods. And they landed a deal to manufacure iconic ET figures. You couldn't buy those in a store...

They came in all sorts of colors, with keyrings etc. but I scored one that had the original ET color.

Not something to play with but definitely something to be proud of.

I didn't really play with dolls like that, but had many Barbies and a custom dollhouse I liked "setting up." I often spent my allowance at a local craft store that had dollhouse accessories. My brother had many action figures though!

I never did the Barbie thing, but I remember my younger brother having GI Joes and my 2 younger sisters having Barbies, Barbie Dream House, and Barbie Camper.

I do remember that my friend had a couple of dolls with hair that grows. We spent hours making intricate braids on those dolls. This may have obsessed me after my mom had my hair cut short when I was 7.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures are my favorite collections given their vibrant colors, uniqueness and the series that was aired in the Television channels. They are more like a power rangers to me and my first ever collection. Off late, I had a mini Wonder Woman figurine as a collectible.
