Throwback Thursday: Friday night traditions? #TBT

It's Thursday!

giphy

When we had young kids, we would try to make Friday nights somethings special. Both because it was the start of the weekend and also to have a carrot for the kids to finish their chores. Like, we would often clean the house on a Friday and trying to get the kids to help us. "We´ve got finish cleaning so we can have our special night!"  :) So we started making homemade pizza on Friday nights and often we'd rent a movie (VHS or DVD). Eat pizza and watch a movie.

Sooooo, what Friday night traditions did you have as a kid or have today?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

Growing up, Friday night was movie night.  We would go down to the local video store and pick out and rent a few movies.  Then we would make popcorn (using an air popper) and we'd get to stay up about an hour later than normal.

Mine was over lockdown.

My children came every other weekend, so from the point I returned them on a Sunday, to when I collected them 12 days later, I'd employ EVERY BIT of my ScrumMaster creativity to put together an activity list for the weekend.
I'd poll freebie sites and charity shops to gather pieces for the next set of games.
My fav was an 'entrapment laser web' (Catherine Zeta-Jones & Sean Connery) woven up and down the garden.  The children were divided into teams, one had to guide a blindfolded partner through the web without setting off the (Christmas) bells.
The children's' fav was a blindfolded assault course - only my eldest attempted cycling BLINDFOLDED !

When I was a kid, I remember pizza and movie nights on Fridays (rented from Blockbuster, of course!) When my own kids were little, Fridays were often the same. For a while, my husband would even make homemade pizzas on Fridays! Now, we typically go out to eat on Fridays, but with a middle schooler and high schooler, we have a less regular routine since they are so busy.

Back in my university days, Friday night was Laser Tag followed by pizza night.

After university, and before children, Friday night was Irish pub night.

Now, Friday night is try and persuade the 9 year old that just because it's a weekend tomorrow she still has a bed time night!

At university, Friday was Dungeons and Dragons with pizza delivered to the dorm night.

When I lived in the southern beaches of Los Angeles in my early 20s, Friday was volleyball and pizza delivered to the beach night.

Nowadays, Friday night is I'm so glad I'm done working for the week; too tired to do anything night.

Growing up Friday nights in the fall always involved High School football. My brother was playing then I was playing, then I was officiating for awhile. As a family outside of that or other times of the year, it was just another night for us, which usually meant gathering around the TV.

When I was a kid, Friday nights were always horror movie nights. Now as a parent, we’ve turned it into family game night—each week one of us chooses a board game to play together. And when it gets late, I keep my old tradition alive by watching horror movies with the older kids.

When I was younger, Friday nights usually meant snacks and watching movies at home 🎬🍿

These days I still like to keep Fridays quiet - good food, maybe a show, and no alarms the next morning 😊 Nothing fancy, just cozy and relaxing after a long week.

Hi @Kristján Geir Mathiesen , my friend!  Thanks for the question! Watching movies together as a family was a tradition when I was growing up. As I got older, I loved going to the theater to enjoy films on the big screen. Later, when I moved to another city for college, Friday nights became a time to reconnect with friends — laughing, talking, and spending the whole night together. Sometimes we’d go out, other times we’d just hang out at someone’s place. Those were really good times. :-)
