Throwback Thursday: New year's resolutions #FT (not really #TBT)

It's Thursday!
Welcome to the first Thursday of 2024 and happy...
Some people make new year's resolutions, others don´t. I used to make them but then when end of January or middle of February came alone, I just kind of forgot about them. Mind you, there are some things we never forget...
I don't do resolutions, but have set a word of intention some years. This year, I am just happy that I've continued my exercise routines and healthy eating so I'm not "starting over" with the new year. 🏋️♀️
That's a relatable experience with New Year's resolutions.
I'd say no to resolutions because I had never kept those promises that I made to myself.
However, on the last day of 2023, I decided on a new approach by using an Excel spreadsheet to log daily activities focused on physical, mental, and brain health. This includes tracking my footsteps, taking cold showers, learning new languages, and reading non-technical books for pleasure (like normal people do). I'm optimistic that this structured method will help me stay committed to my goals for this year and the years to come (fingers crossed). At the end of each row, I give myself a percentage for the day, what per cent I've achieved coloring the cell (green, orange, red). I has been going well, but hopefully I will give the same answer several months from now :D
It's a way of turning resolutions into a tangible, everyday practice. Wishing everyone success with their goals, whether they're tracked on a spreadsheet or not!

I now try to do a resolution for one simple thing that I can realistically accomplish. So that rules out things like "don't eat any chocolate." Mine is something that takes <1 minute and I do it in the first 30 minutes after I wake up, so it's out of the way before I get into my day. I'm very happy that I've managed to keep it going all the way to day 4!
No resolutions, just excited for lots and lots of exciting stuff happening this year. Some of which are a lot of Atlassian projects internally and with customers. (Also... lots of great trips planned ;) )
No resolutions for me this year. But maybe I need to make one to listen to my cassette collection and watch several older movies on VHS. (sorry no old mac with a floppy drive in it to play Dark Castle on anymore)

I don't really do new year's resolutions any more since I've never been able to stick to them! But these days I try to have vaguely achievable aims for the year.
So for 2024, I'm aiming to improve my running speed since I'm currently very slow! I'd also like to do more journaling 😊
Typically I don't do resolutions -- why wait until the new year to improve yourself? -- but for some reason, this year is different. I am on a mission to eat healthier and exercise more. Wish me luck!

One resolution that I set myself last year was to lose weight and also to get stronger for the gym and I have continued that into this year! I managed to lose 80 lbs and keep it off while also being able to lift a bit more every single day! 🥳
I always do a Resolution Trio: Three New Skills, Three New Projects, and Three New Places. And if i didn't finish last years three, they just continue to the next year unless i decide it's not gonna happen. I usually do at least 1 of each, cuz they're more of a bucket list of sorts instead of a chore.
What are resolutions again? I am a fear maniac so I set big, hairy audacious goals for myself by picking and reviewing 1-3 items from my Vision board in key areas of my life at work, community or at home. To keep myself accountable, I usually tell a confidant about it and intentionally ask them to keep me on my toes about it.
My answer is an echo of many that have posted before me. I don't believe in New Years Resolutions. I just try to be better each day, and on days when I fail to accomplish that goal I do some introspection to make sure I move forward the next day.

I don't make resolutions, but after a year of having my living situation somewhat in limbo, it has been decided that I will stay in the downstairs apartment of my parents' home. (They need to have someone close and available in case of emergency). So now all those boxes in the garage with all my treasured belongings must be unpacked, sorted, reduced, recycled and generally dealt with.
Those boxes gotta go!!!!
And a couple of charities are gonna get a lot of random stuff donated at drop off locations.
