Throwback Thursday: your favorite childhood toy? #TBT

It's Thursday!
giphy
This here is my grandson, Ragnar. He is playing with one of the cars I had when I was a boy.

He LOVES cars. Fascinated by them. The picture below is of the bottom of that Coast Guard Jaguar. I think I got it back in 1981 or so. I was really into cars when I was a boy.

Soooo, what was your favorite childhood toy?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

I had a 'remote control' wired Moon rover with which I terrorized my family with both getting in everybody's way and creating a trip hazard with that 2 meter long 'remote control' cable.

I remember playing with a Matchbox Saab model - this developed into a small collection.

But since about 9, it was Lego. I didn't have many bricks but it was a tremendous creativity booster.

Does a snowmobile count as a childhood toy? If so this was my favorite.

If not, it was a puppet of Big Al from the Country Bear's Jamboree at Disneyworld.

I’m putting together a list here — bear with me! 😊

  • A Mickey Mouse soft toy
  • a mechanic game like this

  • Video game console (think Mario, Contra, Road Fighter, etc.).

Here's a really poorly cropped photo of my own childhood dollhouse taken when my kids were little and playing with it. Sometimes we still get items for it at the craft store and we usually put up a little Christmas tree in it around the holidays. It has moved to the basement, but is still out for guests to tinker with. I lacked creativity in the "playing with dolls" department, but loved redesigning the rooms.

Lego, always Lego.

Building blocks

Balancing things on things

I'm seeing a theme here, hmm.

I can relate to @Matt Doar _Adaptavist_

Lego all the way!

Although I believe they are focusing more and more on adults than on kids these days 😄

@Tomislav Tobijas I have two issues with Lego today

- too many pre-shaped bricks serving specific purpose in a specific set

- too many small bricks used to build large things

Kristian. I expected someone to say cost (true) and custom bricks. My biggest problem is that the little bricks hurt more my fingers more now. But those instructions, so wonderful

Not sure that I had a single favorite toy - it pretty much depending on what I felt like playing with that day. But Matchbox cars for sure would be in the mix. And a one point a train set.

I agree with @John Funk that I don't think I could name a single toy that I enjoyed playing with, and my parents kept all of my childhood toys, many of which my own kids play with now.

Since I was born in that awkward set of years where I was a little too young for the original Transformers and I was an adult by the time the Michael Bay movies came out, I grew up with Beast Wars!

Same concept just animals instead of cars, trucks & planes.

I can't say I had a favorite toy growing up — I was always more drawn to spending time with friends. Most of our days were filled with running around and playing games like hide and seek. Hovewer, when I was a kind and someone asked me what was my favoiurite toy, I could answer "My mom" 😊

Hi

As a child, I played a lot with many Fisher Price toys, this is one of them and today I still keep it as one of my greatest treasures.

Regards

I am torn between Lite Brite

and Spirograph

I think I spent equal time with both.

I think my favorite toys were the ones I got from McDonald's Happy Meals or from Kinder Surprise eggs. Those always felt extra special! ✨

I had lots of toys as a child but i probably spent most time with Lego. Amazingly creative and always a struggle to find that missing piece :-)

I had so many toys as a kid, but would probably say all my Matchbox cars.

My favourite toy as a really young child was a knitted orange lamb, although my mum claims that this never existed, so I may have imagined it
