Welcome Wednesday: First Day of School!

Wednesday.gif

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Today is the first day of school for my son (my daughter starts tomorrow, kindergarten is unique). One of the most exciting (or scary) parts can be finding out who your teacher is going to be and who is going to be in your class. My son, is hoping to have all his friends from last year in his class again and we will find that out within the next 30 minutes.

My question for you this week:

Are your kids are they excited about going back to school? Or are they just excited to see a number of their friends they may not have seen over the summer break?

If you don’t have kids, I’d love to know if the kids being back affects your daily routine? Your morning/afternoon commute? Changing the time of day you do your grocery shopping?

Share your stories in the comments below—I’d love to hear how everyone is kicking off the school year!

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

My daughter's first day back was yesterday, she was excited to see her friends, and do some school learning, but it was colder than she expected so she moaned all the way there, but when she came out she had had a good day.

And it took one day to lose the first item of clothing, she's down one rain jacket that we bought the day before after she lost her rain jacket last term!  When I pick her up later if she hasn't got 2 jackets, yesterday's one plus today's one, she's going back in to look for them.

My kids both started at new schools yesterday - moving up to middle school and high school. There was some general worries about finding classes, opening locks, and liking their teachers. I'm thrilled to be back to routine, but also SO tired from only two days of our (much earlier) morning hustle. Thankfully, I work from home so my morning commute doesn't change. 😏

Back to school does impact my work in other ways though since I work for an educational technology company - it tends to bring bugs to light and involve more customer trainings. Although, many of our partners started school over a month ago already!

My child is grown and gone, but I remember the stress of wondering whether her best friend would be in her class or finding out who she would have to sit next to.  I was also in the Air Force, and if we moved in the summer, she had to go to her first day of school without having a best friend.  To her, that was so much stress.  I hope your children have a stress-free first day of school, and everyone gets to sit next to their best friend.

My kids started yesterday, but since we homeschool, it is not much different. My oldest is excited about starting a new math course, but what he is most excited about is learning how to build a game for Roblox. My youngest is all in on the science lessons but is trying to avoid writing. Overall, the only real change for them is having to wake up earlier, but they do get to interact with other homeschool students so they love that time of the day.

I don't have any kids and work from home, so I'm generally only affected when I have a doctor appointment and need to drive past 1 (or 4) schools at drop off or pick up times. I either need to give myself extra time to get there/home or figure out the route with the fewest schools. 🚌 Not to mention getting stuck behind a school bus making frequent stops.

I don't have kiddos, but I have nephews.  And them being back in school means I can go from being over-bearing Auntie Niamhy that's trying to get them to calm down - back to being Cool Auntie Niamhy who's trying to wind them up after they've had a tiring day at school. And I love that. 😎
