Market Place Apps

Hello,

I would like to confirm the pricing for Market Place Apps - mainly the below two -

Issue History for Jira | Atlassian Marketplace

Time in Status | Atlassian Marketplace

The below statement for both of them -

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. Jira Cloud apps are priced based on the maximum users of the Jira products on your instance. For example, if you have Jira Software (50 users) and Jira Service Management (10 agents) on the same instance, you pay the 50-user price for apps.

Checking our Billing page, we have 500 Jira Premium licenses, can I assume that this means we would have to pay for 500 'Team Size' Market Place apps even if only 50 users will be using them?

Thanks for the help, all.

Cheers.

Hello @Joshua Stokes

Yes, that is correct. Apps are licensed for the same number of users that are licensed to use the Atlassian product, regardless of how many of those user will end up using the app.

I would add a “for now” qualifier to Trudy’s answer.  There is talk about Atlassian making a change that we would result in Atlassian Marketplace app vendors being able to offer per user pricing in the future.

Note however, you may not see a radical change in the total price. Marketplace vendors understand that customers do not like the current pricing requirements imposed on them. And, they do the best they can to offer value based pricing, taking the current pricing model into consideration.  I know this because I have worked for several Atlaissian  Marketplace vendors and have built pricing models to reflect the value of the product given the current pricing scheme.

Certainly, the Marketplace vendors will revise their pricing models if the scheme changes.

Thanks for that @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_

Per user pricing would be ideal and I feel also very popular... if a company can spend say 2000$ per year for X amount of users instead of 4500$ per year for XY amount when 60% will not use it, I know what I would pick :)

Thanks!!

Hi @Joshua Stokes!

Thanks for your interest in Issue History for Jira app!

As with other Marketplace apps, billing for Issue History is set by the maximum licensed users, not the number of active users.

So, if you have 500 Jira Premium licenses, the subscription cost for our app would be based on the 500-user tier.

We realize that such a pricing model might not be perfect for all teams. Currently, it allows us to maintain simplicity and match how Atlassian manages app billing across instances.

We often update our app and add new features to give our users more than just the basic functions. We hope these updates and benefits will prove helpful for you and your team, no matter the price.

You’re welcome to contact our support team. We’ll be happy to provide detailed answers to any questions you may have.

Hi @Joshua Stokes  👋

Thanks for the question — and great summary from @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_and @Trudy Claspill  🙌

You're absolutely right:

At the moment, all Jira Cloud apps (including Time in Status) are billed based on the total number of licensed users on your Jira instance — not just those who actively use the app.

So yes, if you have 500 Jira Premium licenses, the app tier would align with the 500-user pricing, even if only 50 users use the app day-to-day.

We at SaaSJet understand this model isn’t always ideal, and we’re closely following Atlassian’s ongoing discussions around more flexible, per-user pricing models. When/if those changes roll out, we’ll absolutely review and adapt our pricing approach to reflect that.

In the meantime, we aim to deliver as much value and insight as possible for teams of all sizes — including exports, sprint reporting, historical time tracking, and multi-team dashboards.

If you’d like to explore a trial or get help configuring Time in Status for your setup, feel free to reach out anytime — we’re happy to help! 🚀
