We have the requirement to ensure two factor authentication for Jira and Confluence for users with and without mobile phone.
I'm not yet clear if it's possible to use a hardware token instead of an authentication app or SMS? Is it? And if so, what kind of hardware token can be used?
Would be very happy about any information and suggestions to solve this issue.
Just if someone is interested in the solution: at least it works with a simple NFC Security Key like this one.
Hello @Uta Samaga
What is a hardware token exactly? This is the full guide for the 2FA for enabling on Jira: https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-account/docs/manage-two-step-verification-for-your-atlassian-account/

Hi @Nikola Perisic ,
with hardware token I mean peace of hardware like this or this or this.
I'm little confused because in the guide you have linked is a description of "Use a security key". I thought this might be what I mean by "hardware token". But in the German part of this guide this option isn't mentioned at all.

@Uta Samaga No, there is not an option to use hardware tokens like those from the links. Only the ones that are provided by the guide.

Thank you for your quick reply, @Nikola Perisic .
To be sure: this means we just can use authenticator apps on mobile devices or the option with SMS. Right?

Exactly, for SMS you need to do this:
Log in to your Atlassian account at https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security and select Manage two-step verification .
Enter your password in the Account password field and select Limited security option .
Select Get started with SMS .
Enter your phone number and select Send SMS with code . We'll send you a text message with a code.
Enter the code and select Connect phone .
Follow the instructions on your screen to finish setting up.
