🚀 Introducing Smart Buttons + Rovo Agents

What if writing a PRD could be as simple as clicking a button?

With the latest update to Automation Smart Buttons, that’s now a reality. We’re thrilled to introduce a new capability that brings Rovo agents into your everyday Confluence workflows—through smart buttons.

Whether you're brainstorming ideas, planning your next Jira epic, or summarizing customer interviews, you can leverage Rovo agents from anywhere in any page, with a single click.

Let’s dive in.

✨ The Magic in Action

Here’s how it works - for example:

  1. You start with a Confluence page filled with raw ideas—for example, a brainstorming doc about improving Confluence AI.

  2. You insert a smart button using "/smart button" or "/automation", and choose "Use Rovo agent and publish new page."

  3. In the smart button config, select:

    • A Rovo agent (e.g., “PRD Builder”)

    • Input = Current page content

    • Template = A custom or team-wide “1-pager” PRD template

    • Output = A new Confluence page (e.g., under “Agentic PRDs” with a dynamic title using smart values)

Once the button is added, anyone (you or a teammate) can simply click it to run the agent. Voilà! A fully structured PRD is created and published—automatically.

No copy-pasting, no formatting. Just structured, actionable output, ready for engineering, design, or stakeholders.

🧪 Demo Snapshot

In our internal demo, we:

  • Created a list of AI ideas using generative brainstorming

  • Added a smart button labeled “Generate PRD”

  • Connected it to a "PRD Builder" agent, pointing it to:

    • Our “1-pager” template

    • A designated PRD section in the team space

Once clicked, the agent read the page, synthesized the ideas, and output a new child page with a ready-to-edit PRD. All fields—problem statement, goals, success metrics, risks—were auto-filled based on context.

👉 It’s fast. It’s scalable. And it unlocks async collaboration like never before.

🌎 Use Cases to Spark Your Imagination

This is just the beginning. You can use smart buttons + Rovo agents to automate nearly any content transformation. Here are a few examples:

Product Management

  • Turn customer feedback pages into product briefs

  • Summarize interview notes into insight reports

  • Auto-generate release announcements from feature specs

Engineering & Delivery

  • Convert architectural discussions into design docs

  • Turn retro notes into action item summaries

  • Automatically create Jira tickets for roadmap items

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Turn Confluence meeting notes into project status pages

  • Summarize page content and email it to stakeholders

  • Publish a cleaned-up weekly digest from a messy backlog

Custom Agents, Infinite Possibilities

You can create your own Rovo agents in under a minute via Rovo Chat. Agents can:

  • Use your tone, templates, or structure

  • Work across Confluence, Jira, email, and more

  • Be reused, remixed, and shared with your team

What’s Next

We're expanding this capability rapidly to more templates for including in: Email, Jira, and comments

Try It Today

Whether you're an IC, tech lead, or program manager, Smart Buttons + Rovo Agents give you a scalable way to automate the in-between work—so you can focus on big moves, not busywork.

To try it:

  1. Type "/smart button" or "/automation" anywhere on any Confluence page

  2. Choose "Use Rovo agent and publish new page"

  3. Connect to your favorite agent—or build a new one on the fly

Interesting release — but from a practical standpoint, I’m not seeing the real value add here. If I already have Rovo enabled, I can just run the agent directly on the page without the extra overhead of creating and configuring a Smart Button. That’s faster, more flexible, and avoids hardcoding use cases that might shift anyway.
Happy to be challenged if i've missed something — is there a scenario where this materially improves speed or UX over just invoking the agent directly?

@Avinoam - thanks for the update. The smart button feature feels like it has potential. For example, directly linking page visitors with specific AI features for consuming the content in a space.

A couple of questions:

1. Is it possible to connect smart buttons to custom automations?  If not, is this a feature that is planned?

2. Can the smart button templates be customised?

Thanks.
