Does page-level edit permission really require space-level delete page permission?

I edited a page's restrictions to gave a user permission to edit, and the Restrictions pop-up showed that he could edit, but there was no edit button.

He contacted support and they said I had to give him space-level add and delete page permissions.

Is that true? It seems crazy. Typically as the space owner I might want to give someone permission to edit one or more pages but would want to reserve the ability to add or delete pages for myself.

No - Adding (which includes editing) a page and page deletion are two different settings in the Permissions profile so you can reserve the ability to delete a page to your admin role
