Does upgrading to Confluence 4.1 also require us to upgrade to earlier version of Jira than Jira 4.2?

We are currently running Confluence 3.4.9 and Jira 4.2.2, and are planning on upgrading to Confluence 4.1. We are also planning on upgrading Jira, but we will start out with Confluence. We use gadgets and Jira issue plugins to display Jira info in Confluence, as well as some self developed plugins that retrieve info from the Jira DB. One concern we have is that we may have to upgrade both environments simultaneously for things to woek properbly what with API changes and such. Does anyone know if this should be a concern to us, or can we follow our initial plan of upgrading first Confluence, and subsequently Jira.

You should be ok, to do the upgrades independantly. However, as always, do a test install first as it may be different for you.

One problem that we had with running different versions is that the newer Confluence team calendars did not properly run with our older version of JIRA. As in, we couldn't use the JIRA calendar. We also had some problems with running the GreenHopper reports in Confluence. Once we upgraded JIRA the issues went away.
