I want to use jira as user directory for confluence, but when trying to connect i get:
Connection test failed. Response from the server:
com.atlassian.crowd.exception.InvalidAuthenticationException: Application failed to authenticate
I set up the confluence as application link and whitelisted it in jira.
The instances of jira and confluence are running in the internal network with IPs and not with FQDNs.
The logs don't show anything related.
Anyone the same problem? I also read every post on this problem, but nothing helped
For everyone dealing with the same problem:
I deleted the user in jira server users and added a new one with a password which has no special characters like §$ or something like that.
ONLY CHANGING THE PASSWORD WILL NOT WORK!
There really should be information, or even better, a message on creation of the user that tells you not to use special characters which aren't working.
That's odd, the system I've got (Confluence 6.4, Jira 7.4) works fine with special characters in the password. And username too.

I'm running jira 7.5.2 and confluence 6.5
Not sure why, but I tested another easy password without special characters, but without removing the user and that didn't work. I also set up the same user with the same special character password used in the beginning which also didn't work.

Hi Simon
I believe the KB below might be helpful to resolve this problem, it seems the user created in JIRA in order to allow Confluence to authenticate is invalid. A password reset might be helpful to resolve this problem. If it doesn't, please check the other resolution steps for this issue provided on the KB and let us know in case of any questions. Hope it helps! :)

I already read the this while setting up confluence with this documentation.
I also reseted the password by deleting the user in JIRA user server and setting it up again.
In the mean time i installed hiphat and the error is the same when trying to connect to jira user directories.
Is there any log or log option i can set to narrow this down?
