How to generate a free license key/promo code for a confluence add on at Atlassian Market Place?

We asked one of the atlassian market vendors to support us with  a free licence of their confluence app. They are willing to give support but only thing, the guy who replied was not sure how to  generate a free license or a promo code. Can anyone please tell us how to do this?

Hi Aubrey,

The vendor should go to the Atlassian Marketplace and then 'Manage Vendor account'. 

Then the menu item 'Promotions' will show up. Now it depends does he have any existing promotions already. If yes, he can navigate to the right promotion. If not, he can create a new promotion. It is a bit different for server and cloud apps.

We generated a promotion code for one of our clients, using that procedure. However, that client has a Data Center Jira Software license and the promotion code does not seem to work. Is it possible to generate a promotion code for a Data Center license?

The error the client gets when selecting his data center commercial license in the promotion is "To purchase for this license please contact us"

The promotion creation documentation mentions that the Cloud products are not supported by the pormotions, but there is no mention about Data Center.

I have never created a code for our Data Center apps before so I just tried to figure it out. And it seems that the promotions are currently only available for the Server apps. I might be wrong though, but your experience seems to back it up.

I suspected that. I opened a ticket with Atlassian's support to make sure. Maybe the best way would be to let the client buy the app and then we issue a refund. Thank you for your help.

For anyone who would have to do the same, for a Data Center licence, I was referred to the billing and licensing support https://www.atlassian.com/company/contact/purchasing-licensing

There, I had to identify myself as a reseller and ask for a quote. I had a live chat with a customer serice agent, he asked me to create a new promotion code for the apps I wanted (because it was expired) and he created a quote for my client using that promotion. The quote and licenses were sent directly to the client via email.

Thanks Mathieu, for letting us know. It still seems like a workaround. Did they tell you anything about making it easier for the vendors?

It really feels like a workaround yes. They don't seem to have any other solution though. I asked the agent "If this happens again, I have to go through this billing section of the solution partner support to have a sell discounted apps for Data Center?" and the answer was yes...

 If you are trying to generate a evaluation key where you can try out the plugin for a certain period. 

you can generate an evaluation license key. To do this, follow below steps.

1. Navigate to Atlassian market place
2. Search for the plugin you wish to install
3. Click Try it free button

       4.Then you will navigate to My Atlassian page where you can generate your evaluation licence

• evaluation license key can be use for evaluation purpose it is like you get to use the plugin free for a certain trial period. at the end of the trial period you have to decided weather to buy the plugin or not.  
• by promo code ; probably you are referring to a licence key which you are trying to buy under a discount or something like that. in this case my answer is not valid.

I understood your question as you are going to get the plugin for a trial period and you are trying to get the evaluations (trail license) license.

Thanks for your answer. I really appreciate it. We are actually Atlassian Partner therefore we get support from vendors with a free licence of their apps. But the guy figured it out already how to do it.
