Upgrade Jira Software form 6.4 to 7.10

Juris Dāvis Veldre August 8, 2018

Hello, what is the most easiest way to move all data (issues, projects, attachments, workflows etc.) form Jira 6.4 H2 database to Jira Software 7.10 external database? Is the Rest API the only way?

No, that's a terrible way to do it because you'll lose data and have to write swathes of code.

Export the 6.4 h2 data to xml.  Import it into a proper database running with a clean empty install of 6.4.  Upgrade that to 7.0, then again to 7.10

Hi @Juris Dāvis Veldre - Welcome to Community! :)

Actually there are few ways of achieving moving the data. It depends on what you would like to achieve - adding more data to JIRA instance with already existing data or moving to clean installation (which is a lot e easier to do). Which situation do you have?

Overall it would be good to have both instance in version 7.10 before making a move I think you should first switch database (on 6.x) to the same type as 7.10 external database is. (https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/switching-databases-938846867.html). Then you would have two instances running on external database, then upgrade to 7.10 from 6.x to have same databases schemes and finally you can try to move your data to target instance.
