JIRA Service Desk Cloud
Th problem is the page tree macro works perfectly fine in the Confluence page but keeps loading in the knowledge base article when it is viewed via the customer portal.

Same here. We are trying to use the Knowledgebase for our docs and the navigation is a bit of a nightmare. We get the infinite load but also the way it opens pages is a bit annoying. Every page opens in a new tab

No, I don't have a solution. It's a known bug (https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDCLOUD-5936) and still not resolved.
