application link: how to enable oauth in JIRA?

We want to create an application link from JIRA to Confluence.

JIRA is V7.8.1, Confluence is V6.7.1
Both are server versions running on Linux, using SSL and reverse proxies.
The URLs are of the form https://server.dom/plans for JIRA and https://server.dom/docs for Confluence. I am admin of both servers. Both servers use the same LDAP but have a few different local users.

When I create an application link on 

It has not been possible to retrieve the required information from https://server.dom/docs. Therefore the link cannot be created.

In the other direction, Confluence is telling me that JIRA does not use OAuth. 

But I can't find where to enable OAuth for the application link in JIRA.

Hopefully these notes from my environment will get you moving:

• Set up the application links from the JIRA side (easier)
• Application Link settings: Oauth incoming/outgoing
• Outgoing Authentication settings: Enable outgoing 2-Legged OAuth requests (checked)

I've understood that by the time of application link creation one instance wasn't able to reach the other and therefore the application links have been misconfigured.

If so, have a look at the short howto below and your link-configuration should be all good.

On both sides of your application link (JIRA, Confluence):

1. Navigate to "Application Links"
2. Click on the pencil on the right side of the respective Application Link entry
3. Choose "OAuth" on Local Authentication Multi-Select
4. Save Changes

Afterwards the application links should be working, you should be happy and have a good day :)
