This is my situation: We have many users in our AD, but less then 100 users that will use confluence. I want user data / pw to be in sync with AD. I dont want an AD group or OU to filter users.

Is it either possible to only make users from AD be imported when the user in question tries to logon, so not all users in the AD gets imported - or manualy create users and link them towards AD?

Otherwise we must buy ex. a 500 or 1000 user licence when we only use 100 users.

Is there anyone out there that have been in my situation?

Actually you can import AD users to Confluence when such users try to logon using "delegated authentication" as we can see in this doc:
