Show space list by categories on confluence dashboard

hi:

I want to show the space categories on "Site Welcome Message", and chick the category can show the space list of the category.

In http://baseurl/spacedirectory/view.action can show hte categories an click the category can list the space, but it use Ajax to realize this function.

We did something similar by customizing the global layout. Take a look at the first comment on this page: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Customising+the+Confluence+Dashboard. We ended up doing something similar. We created two pages in a space, and then including them on the dashboard as left and right panels. One page/panel is a canned welcome message, while the other page/panel is just the spacelist macro with categories.

I think what he is trying to do, is to display different categories and the related spaces directly on the dashboard within the the "Spaces"-Tab on the lower left. By default you see "Favorites" and "Spaces". It would be really cool, if instead you could have your categories there.

Is this possible, and if, how :) ?

Yes, it would be very valuable and helpful to users to be able to show a selected list of Spaces, selected acording to their Space Category Label, in the Dashboard.

Is there any way to do this?

Could you please elaborate on more detail by "Site Welcome Message" does it mean you want to provide list of category on Confluence dashboard?

Listing the spaces using category could be done by using space list macro. However, please note that the category feature is not working from 4.3 and above due to this bug.

Please do let us know what you mean by "Site Welcome Message" so we could help you apply the macro into it.
