Working with Confluence and Jira

Hi all, 

I've been toying with the possibilities of some interesting ways to use confluence and Jira together however I am running into a couple of problems and was hoping somebody could either help explain a bit better, or possibly point me to a page that has already answered my questions. Thanks in advance for all help.

I have created a status register on Jira for important documents to track its progress through the various approval stages before becoming active.

I have created a register to have this data input from Jira however, I am unable to select specific Jira fields for certain columns in Confluence.

i.e. Jira field = Department (picklist)

     Confluence column = Department

     Jira field = Summary

     Confluence column = Title

 So far I have only been able to insert Macro containing the Status and the summary or I can hide the summary.

Is there a way to do this? Id like to do this on the table I have created rather than import a Jira automated table.

Can you let me know what you are using to create the table? I assumed that you are using the Jira issues macro, but your last sentence says you'd rather use a table than import a Jira automated table. I'm not sure what either of those refer to, so can you please clarify?

The first is an example of the table heading I would like, and essentially I would like to filter information from Jira for different cells, but the information imported on the Jira macro is restrictive to only the status and summary:

The second is the Jira issues table import macro, which provides a lot of irrelevant information for the purposes of confluence use.

In addition, is it possible to filter which issues are available on the second table based on the status of the ticket?

For example, only those tickets that are not in Archive state, and in an archive register, only those tickets that are in the archive state?

Hello Dilan,

Thank you for the example.

With the Jira Issues Macro, you can choose which columns display, so if there are any columns that are not relevant to Confluence, then you can choose not to display them. Also, it will take any JQL you provide it, so feel free to build the filter as you require it.

As for Archived Versions, there is a feature request to be able to query this using JQL:

• JRASERVER-66325 JQL to search the ArchivedVersions

For your other requirements, it is not possible out-of-the-box, but you can use some different customizations, such as with Javascript, if you are familiar, or various 3rd party add-ons, for example:

• JQL Booster Pack

I've also noticed that you might be able to modify your column titles like you were asking with an add-on such as Advanced Tables for Confluence. I am referring to this particular set of instructions:

I'll also tag your question in the Marketplace Collection, in the event that other users have another idea for you using other Marketplace add-ons.

Thank-you for your reply, it is most insightful. I was hoping that there may be a way to do without using any add-ons?

The problem I've had with add-ons in the past is that when feature updates are installed on some occasions functionalities have been lost and so I want to try and avoid this as much as possible for simpler tasks.

If you have any recommendations on this front, I would be most grateful.

Hello Dilan,

The functionality does not exist in Jira by itself. If you don't want to use an add-on, and are comfortable with coding, you can Write a User Macro, or use Javascript to reach your goal. You could also develop an add-on in-house for your purposes. 

As for functionality loss when installing an add-on, as long as the add-on was installed from Marketplace and is rated to work with your version of Confluence, then you shouldn't run into any functionality loss. If you do, then you would want to contact the add-on vendor to let them know that their add-on is causing conflicts.
