Assets has a new home!

Welcome to the new home for Assets!

We understand that for many customers, Assets is crucial, not only to your work in Jira Service Management but in other apps such as Jira and Confluence. To reflect this, we are excited to share that over the coming weeks we are releasing a dedicated experience for Assets. This will be accessible from the app switcher, along with anywhere else you access your apps, such as Atlassian Home. This new experience will provide space for Assets to grow as we continue to invest in its capabilities now and into the future.

What else is coming soon in Assets?

Scalability and reliability

Support for 10 million objects is on the way (up from our current 3 million objects) along with improved reliability, faster performance in AQL and faster / larger imports.

Smart links

Search for an asset, copy the link and embed it with smart links in any Atlassian app. Smart links will be supported for objects, object types and schemas.

Data portability

Support for backup and restore, cloud-to-cloud migrations, data center-to-cloud migrations and sandbox.

Audit logs

The Atlassian audit logs will soon include a comprehensive range of Assets events.

FAQ

1 - Are you modifying the licensing for Assets?

The licensing for Assets remains unchanged. Assets continues to be available exclusively to customers with Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise plans. To access Assets, a user must be assigned the Jira Service Management Agent role.

2 - How does this change effect Assets Data Manager?

The licensing for Assets Data Manager remains unchanged. Data Manager will be accessible within the new Assets experience.

3 - Can I use Assets data in any Atlassian product?

The Assets custom field allows linking Assets objects to work items. Assets can also be inserted into Confluence pages using the Assets table, leveraged in Automation and in Atlassian Analytics. Assets smart links will be rolling out soon!

4 - Can I access Assets if I am only licensed for Jira Software or another Atlassian app?

The core user experience for Assets will continue to be restricted to individuals holding a Jira Service Management Agent license. Jira licensed users can utilise the Assets custom field on work items and Confluence users can insert Assets into pages.

5 - Do these changes also apply to Assets Data Center?

These changes are specific to cloud and do not apply to Assets Data Center.

KUDOS to the product and engineering teams!

Will this impact when more Objects will need to be purchased, or is that limit going to stay at 50.000?

@Silvia Davis ,

Very interesting to see how Assets is more becoming a part of the Platform and less of a standalone module.

This will limit the amount of context switching and opening of new windows/provide a more seamless interaction.

I do have the same concern of @Rune Rasmussen , we often hear that the platform is becoming more stable and robust while providing a larger and larger ultimate limit (currently 10 million) but with the high prices once you reach your 50K objects I feel the customers would rather be able to store less objects but at a more affordable price setting.

am disappointed that it doesn't honor the Jira color selection for the top nav bar nor does it seem to allow me to set a custom color for Assets. We use different colors so users can more easily distinguish which environment they are in to prevent mistakes. I suppose I will have to raise a Support case for that to get an RFE created.

Hi @Rune Rasmussen and @Dirk Ronsmans

This change does not have any impact on the current pricing and packaging of Assets. It's still only available with the purchase of JSM Premium and the existing consumption based pricing still applies. Thanks for your feedback though.

Thanks for the feedback @Rick Westbrock We do intend to support the custom colours in future.

Was this change purposefully rolled out to production instances without any notification, approval, or awareness?

@Mathew Lederman as with all new features this is being rolled out progressively to customers on the continuous release track. Those on the bundled release track will receive it on a longer timeline. It is included in our standard release notes.

@Rick Westbrock an update on respecting Jira's custom nav colours, logo and favicon. We are beginning work on this right now. This is not a large piece of work so we expect to have it in your hands before long.

@Justin King unfortunately that's not accurate. My site is on the bundled release track for Jira, JSM, and Confluence and we received this update. There are no mentions of a new home for Assets in the April or May bundled release notes.

Also you mention that it's in the standard release notes. Which of these places can I find the release note you mentioned?

I don't see the "New home for Assets" mentioned in any of these places outside the forum.
