Customized migration

Giedrius Zaronskis December 6, 2018

Hello, at moment we‘re implementing Jira ServiceDesk, Jira Software and Jira Confluence from the scratch.

Meanwhile we have another Jira instance that already contains a lot of sites and projects etc.

What technical possibilities and best practices can we use to migrate some parts of old Jira to the new one. Let’s say is it possible to customize export from old Jira only selecting several projects and sites and import only that selected info into new Jira instance? If not, what best options are available in this situation?

Thanks

It is not a very straightforward process, so many of the Atlassian Solution Partners are offering such services. There are also add-ons that help through the process, but overall it's a burden.

If you want to carve out projects from one instance rather than take the whole I would create projects, workflows, schemes, etc. nice and clean in the new instance and then export issues from the old and import to the new. Tedious but controlled and allows you to leave any oddities behind.
