How do I change Service Desk Admin to other user?

Parag Ingale March 4, 2019

Dear team,
I did configure JIRA Service desk for my organization and no longer need to be part of JIRA Service Desk Administrator as I am not able to add 3rd Agent to list. It looks like considering my being admin also part of Service Desk Agents.

1) Is there any way I can add 3rd person as Agent keeping my Admin access as is?

2) If above is not possible, how do I change my full admin access to other user? I can add that 3rd person in this role if required.

Any directions are highly appreciated.

Application access in Jira is determined by specific group memberships.  More details are in Licensing and application access.  To answer your questions:

  1. Yes you can still be a Jira Administrator and give the other user access, but this is dependent on your license count having at least 1 more available Jira Service Desk Agent seats.
  2. If you do not have any available license seats, then you could potentially remove your own account to make room, but in order for you to make sure you can still be a Jira Admin and login to the site, we need to know more about your environment.

Specifically if you only have Jira Service Desk, and don't have installed any licenses for Jira Software and/or Jira Core, then you can't actually remove yourself from that group.  In order for your account to be able to login to Jira, you have to be a licensed user.  This means that your account has to first belong to a group that grants application access.  If you have Software or Core license seats available, then as long as your user accounts belongs to one of these you can still login to Jira.

Managing global permissions explains how groups in Jira can be setup to grant users system admin rights.   However a users ability to even use these permissions is first dependent on the ability to login to Jira first.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Andy
