I am looking to make all of JIRA Server read-only more than likely in the upcoming months for all users. I want to set up a project, that is no longer used currently, as browse only for now. I created a new permissions scheme and set the Browse Projects permission to "Any logged in user" and that's it. I assigned a project that permissions scheme. Is that it? Next Steps?
Hello @Michael Trostle , you did the right thing by creating a new permission scheme and assigning it to the projects.
Next steps:
- You need to manually change the permission scheme on all the existing projects to make them read-only
- For all the new projects you need to manually go into permission scheme and associate them to your read-only permission scheme
- You can change the name of your permission scheme to "Read only Permission Scheme" to make it easier for you when you are associating projects to this scheme
- You can also rename your projects to "Readonly: project a" or "Archive: project a" so that users will know that they are archived.
Note: Browser projects permission will allow users to browse projects and the issues within them.
Best,
Sachin.
It would have been much more simple if there was a simple checkbox setting "Make project read-only".
Also, a permission based solution is useless for admin users. What if we want our top-most admin also be unable to create tickets (etc) in a certain project (this happens by humane error sometimes)? Archiving it is not an option, because we still want it all browsable and searchable. We just want it frozen in it's current state.
