How to Add an Approver dynamically?

JIRA Service Desk - Cloud.  For all types of requests an approver is required.  The approver is 99% of the time the manager of the requester/submitter.  I need to dynamically grab the approver from a different application and update the Approver field when the JSD request is created.  Anyone tackle this or similar and if so how?  Scriptrunner for JIRA?
