Can anything be done so that Slack can handle SMIME email responses.  It shows up fine in Jira but is grossbly garbled in Slack.  I know I'll be told its a Slack issue but pointers are appreciated.

Hey, welcome to the Community!

Firstly I'd say you're right - Slack support is pretty responsive so I'd suggest letting them know you have a need for S/MIME support there. You can access their support portal here  - fixing your issue at its root is going to be the cleanest path.

However, depending on where the emails are coming from and what you're doing with them, you might be able to work around it. The idea of S/MIME is end-to-end encryption - having a service decrypt the email and forward it on to Slack seems counterproductive. But if those emails are being ingested by Jira correctly, you could use Jira as a forwarding service of-sorts.

I can think of a couple ways you could send a message to Slack with the text of a new comment created from an S/MIME email:

  1. The official Jira Cloud for Slack integration that comes with Jira (it's in the Slack integration section of your project's administration) can send a notification to a Slack channel for a comment created event

  2. You could set up an Automation rule (again in your project's settings - this time under Automation) to send a Slack message when triggered by a new comment on an issue. There's just slightly more setup here as you need to configure a webhook URL in Slack to receive the message, but you also get some more granular options in what the message says.

I hope that helps give you some options!

Cheers,
Daniel
