We group our customers into groups such as Platinum, Gold, Silver etc, also some of them are in a second group called VIP and we're trying to prioritize our service desk requests based on which group(s) the customer belongs to. So we'd like to see the customer/reporter's group on the issue screen, is it possible?

Unfortunately it's not possible to display the groups of the users.
However, there is a feature request that might be related to your needs.

I recommend you to add yourself as a watcher and vote for the request. Besides that, you can leave comments there, helping the developers to know your needs.
