Jira will not go past startup tasks after reboot

Michael Barnes November 30, 2018

Jira core/software and service desk was not responding this morning and we rebooted the linux server.  Now jira will not go past the "Atlassian Jira is starting up... Running system startup tasks..."

I do not know what to do next...

I ended up contacting support.

Here is their suggestion that worked.

Hello, Michael!

I've noticed that your Jira instance is throwing java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space oftenly:

2018-11-29 19:12:21,811 Caesium-1-4 ERROR ServiceRunner [c.a.s.caesium.impl.SchedulerQueueWorker] Unhandled exception thrown by job QueuedJob[jobId=com.atlassian.jira.service.JiraService:10001,deadline=1543536000000]
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Currently, your maximum allowable memory is set as 683MB for Jira, which seems to be less than it will actually to run properly. Comparing your database statistics below with this sizing guide, you should increase the maximum allowed memory for Jira to at least 1024m.

I changed this value to 5120 and Jira is lightning fast now as well.

Thanks

Mike

Hi @Michael Barnes

Are you able to check the <Jira-home>/logs/atlassian-Jira.log for error messages?
