Currently, I am still working with the trial version of Service Desk.
I was wondering if i could make a help desk for employees within my company and brand it how I want etc and then create a separate help desk that has an external companies branding that only they can access. and vice versa or would I need to purchase two different services desk licences. one for my company and one for the externals

You don't need to buy 2 different licenses, with the same license, you can create differents projects of service desk type with different portals.
