Need to achieve Page loader on click on web item

We are having a customized web item in issue view screen, on click on that thousands of records have to fetched through the AJAX call and it is taking time for loading these many records. And hence we need to have a page loader here to show for the end user that the processing is happening in the back end. How can we achieve this?
