We are unable to find anymore setting where our request participants are receiving notifications of any update posted on the ticket.

Yiu can check this from Project settings> Custome notification and check by clicking edit where the settings saved as per your requirement. If you want only the reporter to receive notifications then select Reporter(Customer). If you want to have all customers involved(including th request participants) then select the same. :)
