I'm trying to do some clean up in our on prem Jira Service Desk instance and I've come across what looks like duplicate issue types? I know they were created by Jira Service Desk (it's in the description), but do they both need to exist? There are a few other issue types (Problem, Incident, Service Request, Service Request with Approvals) that appear to have the same duplication.
We only have issues using the issue type without '[System]' in front of it. I would just delete the ones we aren't using but that '[System]' makes me wonder if I'll break something. Can anyone give me any insight into this?
The [system] thing simply means that you already had an issue type with that name when you installed Jira Service Desk. It stuck [system] in there just to differentiate them.
You can merge them (I probably would do that, but I do not know your data well enough to be sure its the right thing), or rename them, or delete one of them. The only issue type that might not be safe to rename is "Epic". [system]change vs change - harmless to rename one or both, and probably better if you can merge them, which also won't do anything bad.
@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- I did a search for 'issuetype = "[System] Change"' and got no matches and it's not being used on any issue type scheme other than the default one (which itself isn't used by any project), so I'm assuming I should be good to delete since there doesn't appear to be anything to merge?

Yes, it's fine to delete it. Jira will help you merge if there is a reason to (it'll simply ask what the new issue type should be - select the Change type you want to keep)
