Why is my Request Type description sometimes hidden from the portal user?

danielb July 9, 2020

We use the Request Type description to guide users to complete the appropriate request (and land with the correct resolver group), but this isn't always displayed to the user. Here's the scenario:

1. Go to portal homepage > select appropriate service desk > select request type > description is displayed

When you select the request type, the description is still partially displayed

2. But, if from the portal home page I search for the request type using keyword search, when I find the appropriate request type, it doesn't display the description

And selecting that option, I still don't see the description

Is this something I can resolve? It's really important that the description is displayed to all users, and those searching by tag or keyword currently won't see this text.

I played with this a bit to better understand. My assessment here is that the displayed results from the search are simply not the same as that of the Request Type list. Basically, the search results do not display the help text. You could provide feedback to Atlassian that this would be desirable.

Hi @Jack Brickey  - I'm not sure if you're agreeing and suggesting I give feedback to Atlassian or querying whether I'm comparing like for like?? Here's a screen shot of the browse by request type search, vs keyword search where the description is missing

I’m saying that I also see what you see. I’m also saying I suspect this is simply working as designed. The two views are not the same, I.e. you aren’t getting to the same view via two methods but rather two different views each from their own method.

Thanks for the follow up, Jack. I now realise that if I instead use the filed 'Request form help and instructions', the information I want to display is presented in both views and solves my problem.
