changing the security setting on a dashboard

Good day,

I tried to follow procedure the change the privacy setting on a dashboard. It says to first change the owner but I am not able to do so.

is there a work around ? as the owner is not responding.

You have to first remove the shares if it is shared with public. Try sharing it with group of people or projects. Then update the owner

ok but how do I remove the shares without being the owner ? I don't see options for that. only change owner or delete.

You have to first visit that dashboard. You won't be able to browse from admin section. Click on manage dashboards from homepage dashboard option then you can remove the shares from dashboard else contact the owner to update the shares.
