i am trying the last days to figure out how i can enable the reporter of an issue to change the status of its reported issues.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

If you are using Service Desk you have to check the permissions of the user; In service desk agents are the ones who can move the issue through the Service Desk workflow. So the reporter needs to be made an agent; this will give them all the same rights in the Service Desk.
Also note as the reporter the reporter does not have rights in Service Desk and typically cannnot edit their issues except through the portal.
Grant "transition issue" permission to the Reporter. You may need to grant other permissions if you have conditions on your workflows, but those will be down to each condition to check.
