We've setup Slack integration for both Jira and Confluence.  While it works fairly well, now we're getting double-notified (Slack and email).

We want Jira & Confluence notifications only in Slack, not via email.

How can we do this?

Hi Michael,

Thanks so much for your question.

If I understand correctly, you would like to disable Confluence and Jira email notifications, and enable these notifications in Slack instead? I had a look into this, and I think this is the approach you need to take:

Disable Confluence and Jira email notifications

Jira uses ‘Notification Schemes’ to configure which email notifications are created. These are Project specific. You could remove the notifications you don’t want to have from the relevant schemes / projects. You should have a ‘Default Notification Scheme’ where a custom scheme hasn’t been assigned to a project which might help you do this more quickly if you’d like to apply it to the majority of your projects. Alternatively you could create a new scheme that has no notifications in it, and assign it to the relevant projects you’d like. (read more here: Creating a notification scheme)

Confluence email notifications can be configured at both a user, and a Confluence Administrator level. As an individual user, you can configure them by choosing your profile picture at top right of the screen > select Settings > click Email in the left-hand panel > click edit. A Confluence admin can also turn off the recommended updates notification for the entire site, by disabling the ‘Confluence daily summary email' system app. To do this, from the top navigation bar in your application, choose ‘Add-ons’ or ‘Manage apps’ > find the ‘Confluence daily summary email' then choose 'Disable’. (read more here: Configuring the Recommended Updates Email Notification and Disabling and enabling apps)

Enable Confluence and Jira notifications in Slack

It looks like you’ve already done this, but let me know if you need a hand at all! From the quick research I did, Atlassian has both a Jira Server for Slack and Confluence Server for Slack marketplace app that should help you here. I hope that helps!

Thank you,

Hello Charlie,

We're just getting back to this.  Not sure who "accepted" the answer but it was not me!  Not that it's not a good answer, it's fine, but my issue is not resolved.

First I want to point out that we have already implemented Slack for Jira and Slack for Confluence and have been using them for months.  They work pretty well except for the occasional bug.

The issue now is that we are getting duplicate messages ... from Slack and from email.

We want to turn off email notices but keep the Slack ones flowing as they are.

My remaining question is:

If I disable all email notifications as you specified, will this also disable Slack notifications?
