We have been asked to start using "work orders" the idea is that the work order would cover the material used in an install and the tools used. The request is as vague as it sounds, but I understand that we are now needing to justify our budgets and start to track material and resources used. Before someone creates a printed form to track this I was looking to see how this could be tracked in service desk. Most new installs requests could come from tickets but until the install is over the the material and tools used is unknown.
I am looking at ideas or suggestions on how I could use service desk to achieve this , I am trying to make it as simple as possible for the techs to use with a simple form to fill in to record how the install was completed.
In my head I am thinking the "work order" could be as simple as a form the techs fill in, I just don't know the best method to link it all together using the atlassian eco system. ( At this time there is not a need to report the total number of times resources where needed)
Material Used
Cat6a Cable 700ft
Handtools used (X)
Ladder used (0)
Boom Lift Used (X)
Summary of work completed
New line ran for the install of device 4778 install took longer than normal due to the need to use boom lift.
I have been thinking about this over the weekend and came up with 2 methods.
1. Use service desk and then just attach labels to a ticket to track the use of material, use built in time tracking on tickets to handle time management. Just use the standard ticket feature to track any other details int he body of the ticket.
But can I then use reporting to report against labels and time tracking ?
2. Option 2 is a little more advance and I would need to find out if the following is possible
When a ticket for a new install is created created create a task in a Jira kanban board, Let the techs work on the issue moving it from the back log to planning, commissioning, signoff. When sign off happens automatically close out the ticket. Use label and comment fields to track material and usage..
