Trying to follow the creating a custom report tutorial; not successful.

I'm trying to follow the tutorial at this link: https://developer.atlassian.com/server/jira/platform/creating-a-jira-report/

However, several of the packages and functions are outdated and deprecated. I then found this link: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Not-able-to-import-com-atlassian-jira-web-bean/qaq-p/92557

and I used Tivon Zhang's code to proceed with the tutorial. After finishing the tutorial, everything compiles nicely and when I go to add the plugin in the plugin manager, there are no errors and it says that it was added and enabled successfully. 

But I then run into an issue that I have experienced at this link: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Service-Desk-questions/Custom-JIRA-report-plugin-installed-successfully-but-not-showing/qaq-p/701080?utm_campaign=&utm_content=post&utm_medium=email&utm_source=atlcomm#U701101

in that the two reports: "Single Level Group By Report Extended" and the "Creation Report" do not show up in the reports sections of my projects. 

Could anyone help me? I do not understand why following the tutorials would lead to the plugins not showing up.

Figured it out!
