Adding restriction for the roles

Hi Team,

I would like to make changes to the roles and restrict few people from closing certain tickets.

For example. I do not want any of our L1 team to close the critical ticket without approval from L2 or supervisor.

Can we apply some rules in the roles or user group to restrict ticket resolving action or make changes in work flow for the ticket.

Regards,

Dhananjay

Hi @Dhananjay Kumar

Yes you can achieve it using conditions in Jira Workflows

Please go through the documentation here https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/configure-advanced-issue-workflows to know how to restrict certain users in a specific role to transition the issue

The below guide would help in understanding workflow concepts

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/work-with-issue-workflows

Here's a gist of what you would need to do

Create L1 and L2 Roles

Add the relevant people to roles and all that is left is to use the roles in Workflows, permission schemes, wherever necessary

In the workflow you have created, the add condition to the transition where the approval is required from L2 Role.

If there is a requirement where you would only want the approver to be selected when priority is critical, there are alternatives in Jira which you achieve but it's easier to choose the plugin to perform the configuration. One such plugin is JWT Plugin.

Thanks,

Pramodh

Thank you Pramodh, it may work as per my requirement.  Could you help me with some link or document where I can find steps to create Roles?

That will really help me solve my problem.

Thanks Again.

Hi @Dhananjay Kumar

It's the same

You create the Project Role

Map the Role to permissions

And after which you can map the roles to specific users
