Automation - Jira Due Date added, want it to update linked story

First time poster! Learning alot.

I am trying to automate stories based on due date.

Story A created, automatically creates another story (b), and links it as child.

Note: Story A is linked as child to a feature... But, I dont want comments or Due Date updated on this.

Second automation:

Due date added to Story A. I would like to copy that due date to Story B. (The child)

Rule does not run if I choose "For Stories"

Branch rule / related issues

No related issues could be found.
Right now I just have it to add a comment. But this does not work.  I would like to have it add a comment to Story A and Story B that Due Date was added. And Since Story A HAS a Due Date, I want that copied to Story B, (the child)

And... Is there a way to add to a comment what the Due date is?

The Branch does not pick up any issues...

Due date 1.jpg Due date 2.jpg

And this is the main story that triggered the rule.

You can see the related links "Is Parent of" This is the story that should have been updated with the due date. (699)

I think i figured this out.

For Linked Issue = Child.

Still would love to figure out have to enter the actual Due Date in a comments field.

I SO appreciate all the quick feed back that was given!

Hi @Laura Hanna

Welcome to the Community!

What is the rule in relation to Story A creating Story B?

And how are they linked? You mention a child of Story A - is that the official hierarchy with two different issue types? Or a linked issue relationship?

  • Very simple rule. Story A was created with a certain component.
this triggered the creation of Story B. Linking Story B as child to Story A.

Hi @Laura Hanna

You can't link Story B as a child of Story A natively - unless there's two different Issue Types in use.

Is this using a linked issues relation - even if it's called "is parent of / is child of"?

---

You can check this via the issue view for Story A. It'll either show its children, or its linked issues.

Sorry for being unclear. Yes I am using "is Child of" Linked issue relation.
