Automation rule loop from subtask → parent → other subtasks not working

Hello,

I'm trying to create an automation rule so that when I update a field on a subtask, the same field updates (to be the same) on other subtasks. I understand that I can't transfer information between subtasks (?), so my approach involved creating two rules:

1. A rule so that when the field changes on the subtask, it's copied onto the parent:

2. A rule so that when the field changes on the parent (ie as a result of the change on the subtask), it's copied onto all subtasks with the field:

However, it's not working. After a bit of testing, I've found that:

  • Rule 1 is working, ie information is copied from subtask to parent
  • After rule 1 has been executed, rule 2 isn't being triggered
  • However, if I edit the parent issue directly, rule 2 is triggered and information is copied from parent to subtask

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or suggest a workaround? The instantaneous change is important (thus why I've gone for an automation rule instead of a workflow postfunction).

Thanks team!

A box has to be ticked under rule details!

Hi @Hayley Rodgers

You can do it in 1 rule itself, one example is like this go ahead and try and let me know if it works
