can someone tell me if counting comments in an issue/ticket is possible by automation?
If yes, please do share the steps

Welcome to the community!
Automation has list smart values for comments, so you would be able to get the amount of comments using:
{{issue.comments.size}}
See more info here.
You can use this value in a field or something, and you can pick any trigger you want (on adding new comment, on update, manual if you only want an update on request,..)

It just will tell the issue has 7 comments, I can read the comments as well an see th! there are that many comments.
