Automation to copy note added to Alert to the Linked issue

So have just completed the migration of OG into JSM.   The Sync config under Settings, Operations, I thought would create and update incidents from Alert. But it didnt. So I created an automation to create and tried to create one for update:

I did a test against an alert that has a linked issue

It failed and the logs show:

Everything (not a lot) that I could find states this is how to do it; but I cant make the branc work.

Any ideas, solutions, etc appreciated.

Well support got SYNC working, so issues created from alert works AND said issues receive updates from alerts.

But did find that if you manually create issue from alert and link, updates are not copied across.

Hi @Myles Boyd

That error you see is because the trigger object is an Alert, not a work item / issue from which to branch to linked items.

I am not using Alerts, but I did find this open suggestion indicating automation rules do not have that linkage information: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/AUTO-1623

You could confirm that behavior by working with your Jira Site Admin to ask the Atlassian Support Team here: https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

They might suggest using the REST API to solve this, so please post what you learn to benefit the community.  Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill

Thanks Bill; automation allows me to create an issue and, via tickbox, automatically link to the alert.

Will take up and log a ticket with support, thanks
