Bulk update custom field - Want to append new values each time and not lost old values

I want to update a custom field multiple times. I have different users who will enter static set of data pertaining to their team into it at different times.

however when User 1 adds his data and user 2 goes and bulk updates his data into the same field, I lose the data entered by User 1. 

I am able to append to existing when I bulk update and change Versions on a given set of issues.

What is the field type of the custom field that User 1 and User 2 are editing? I'm trying to understand if the behavior that you expect is that the value entered for the custom field is added to an existing list, e.g.

Hi Carlos,

At present I set it up as Check box which will not work for sure. I think I need to set it up as text field or a multi list. I am also exploring to see if I can set up an auto renderer custom field like the Fix/Version is

Thanks Vidya, how are User 1 and User 2 entering data? Are they JIRA admins who can add items to a list (or multilist)? As JIRA users they could enter labels and the values get added if they don't exist.
