Can I configure JIRA APIs in test environment?

I'm new with Atlassian and JIRA and I wanted to do some testing with JIRA APIs for

task processing and automation.  

The background of this request is that I'm looking at automating deploys

through JIRA ticket tasks for each deploy.  The scope of metadata and

change would be limited to the task.

Please can provide some documentation/guidance or knowledge base for this testing

When it comes to API, there are no restrictions to use it on a test site. Of course that, free plans have some limitations so some endpoints will not work.

• What is the Free Jira Cloud plan?

There are different documentation for each product:

• The Jira Cloud platform REST API
• The Jira Software Cloud REST API
• The Jira Service Management Cloud REST API
• The User Management REST API
• The Organizations REST API
