Can I create a roadmap that displays issues from multiple projects?

Shanara Sadeque January 9, 2023

Hi,

The goal here is to be able to see all the tasks within multiple projects in one place to better manage the work.

Is there a way to have a roadmap that can display issues from other projects without moving them out of the original project or creating a clone of the issue?

Thanks!

Hi @Shanara Sadeque

I assume you're referring to the "Basic Roadmap" in this question - the Roadmap which is available on the left-hand menu when viewing a Project?

In that case, no - the Basic Roadmap is a per-Project roadmap view only.

This is confirmed (along with additional information) in this help guide.

To view issues from multiple Projects in the same Roadmap, you'll need Advanced Roadmaps, which is a feature of Jira Premium. You do mention you have Premium so you should be able to create this in your instance:

  1. Select Plans from the top navigation bar
  2. Select Create a Plan
  3. Follow the steps to create the plan (which has a roadmap view) - setting the Issue Sources based on multiple Boards, Projects, or a filter which takes into account multiple Projects

If the option to create a plan is not visible, check the Permissions for Advanced Roadmaps - to do this...

  • Go to Plans > Settings
  • Select Advanced Roadmaps Permissions from the left-hand menu
  • Ensure you have access as either a User or an Administrator, so you can create plans

Note: At present Advanced Roadmaps is for Company-managed Projects only, but is coming for Team-managed Projects in future - see JSWCLOUD-20012 for updates

For more information on using Advanced Roadmaps, see this help page and/or this guide.

Hi @Shanara Sadeque

This is something that we handle in minware if you are open to 3rd party solutions. Our plug and play dashboard combines version control, ticketing, and calendar data to automate reporting and we have just launched a new predictive roadmap.

Our roadmap can be broken down by epic, or task assignee, and you can expand each epic to view the progress of stories or tasks if that is of interest to you. We also provide visibility into dependencies and weigh weekends to help make your roadmap as reliable as possible.
