Can the automation options under Project settings / Automation from a Jira Service Desk instance be done in a Jira bug tracking instance without using additional plugins ?

We are trying to get the info from two fields and update a third field in a Jira instance we use for development and bug tracking. The Automation options from Jira Services Desk would solve our problems but I don`t see how we can achieve this without using additional plugins in our instance.

Thanks in advance!

If you would like to do this within Jira, then i would say you would have to use a plugin, such as Scriptrunner.

An alternative would be to do this via REST API outside of Jira using Python

correct. also consider Automation for Jira or Power Scripts and Bob Swift is releasing Drag and Drop Automation which looked pretty cool when I saw it at Summit.

Thank you both for your answers. The client will be investigating Automation as it seems to be the easiest to use. I will try my hand with the REST API approach.
