Change Sub-task Key without affecting Parent Key

Greetings,

Kindly Go to Project setting -> Details -> Key

As i know, we can give any characters in Key field which will be merged with indexing number of issue.

For Instance, Key value is CA. So the Issue number will be CA-1, CA-2, etc...

When i try to create sub-tasks, Obviously sub-tasks number will starts with CA-xxx.

Goal Point:

How can i change the Key value as ST instead of CA for sub-task alone. So that, easy way to identify the counting of sub-tasks by the indexing number.

  • Parent issue -> CA-xxx
  • Sub-task issue -> ST-xxx

Appreciate your kind help.

Thanks

Have a good day.

This would put the sub-tasks in a different project, which is nonsense as sub-tasks are part of their parent, which lives in one project.

You can't (and don't want to) do this.

Hi @Kaviraj ,

Welcome to the community..!

You can't change the key value only for sub-task, if you change your project key that will affect all your project issues irrespective of issue type

Refer Change your project key's part for more details and the impact

It can't be done. This has been requested since before I started working with JIRA in 2007. The workaround is to create a custom field that can automatically be incremented. There may be a plugin that does that or you may be able to implement it with scripting. I suggest looking in the marketplace for a plugin and the forum for scripting solutions.
