Crowd for sso with Jira Service Desk

I have to implement SSO between our application and Jira Service Desk. I am using the latest version of Jira Service Desk Data Center. And i found SAML SSO Authentication option in its system settings. Since the Data Center version supporting saml single sign on , do i need to use the crowd? Can i implement it with application itself.
