We upgraded to Jira 8.20.7 and now the description on our custom fields that use a date picker are showing both the custom description and what i believe is the default description.
Looked in both custom fields and the project field configuration, "- Use the d/MMM/yy date format" doesn't appear anywhere. Also put the custom description in both at the same time to rule out an empty description populating with the description mentioned
Project was re-indexed after trying various fixes with no luck.
Ive seen similar posts with people having issue of the custom description not showing at all
Ive also tried as suggested here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/changes-to-custom-field-descriptions-are-not-visible-on-the-create-issue-screen-in-jira-server-833986770.html
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have Scriptrunner? Have you check if you do not have any Behavior (part of Scriptrunner) for your project ?
Does it appears on all projects ? Are you using JavaScript in some field description or announcement banner ? Custom JavaScript in description can impact other fields.

Hi Florian,
we do have scriptrunner however thats all been checked. It appears on any project that is using the date picker field.
No custom javascript in fields or banner from what i can see.
We've raised a support ticket and it has been suggested that this is happening due to something included in v18.9 (not sure what yet as its being investigated). There is also a open suggestion ticket https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWSERVER-21261
