Hidden Custom Field and REST API

I have created a custom field for JIRA (Cloud version) issue and realized that it is not accessible via REST API if it is hidden. Neither is it returned in the list from GET request nor can be created/updated. Is there a way that a hidden custom field could be accessed via REST API? If the field is hidden from UI screens that is alright and that is the desired behavior in my case. Thanks in advance.
